What do you mean by “passing as white”? I think it will be a great day when people stop giving skin color difference any greater significance than they do eye or hair color difference, and people stop having to be defined (either way, for good or ill) by their skin color. For the record, the entire human genome has been mapped. There absolutely is NO gene (more aptly termed allele) for race. Race is sociological, not biological. Populations were isolated for a significant period of time, and developed trait tendencies within them. That’s all. I think it also bears note that many people of African ancestry also have Caucasian ancestors. The practice of raping slaves was accepted and common, and any person with 1/32 or more African/slave blood was considered a slave. Visually, I pass for 100% Caucasian when I’m 1/4 Cherokee. I hardly think that most people with 1/32 African ancestry would visually appear anything but Caucasian. (You might want to read the book Puddnhead Wilson. http://en
