What do you think motivates people to upload CD rips and movies to bittorrent?
1) There is money in uploading. Torrent and P2P traffic in general makes up a strong majority of Internet traffic. CD Rips and movies make up a large segment of this traffic. While it may seem negligible, even simple URL’s in text files located in the torrent or archive garner a considerable amount of traffic. While many people simply overlook the text files and additional content packaged along with real movies and music, if only a small percentage of people visit a link, that can result in productive traffic. There are a number of other techniques that people use to monetize content on p2p and torrent networks. 2) Some people simply don’t know any better. Have you done a search for “jpg” or “doc” in LimeWire? You’ll find a shocking number of personal photos and documents let alone movies and music. In Canada, it is legal to “rip” a movie for individual personal use if you own the original content and do not share it with anyone else. I rip EVERY new DVD and CD that I buy and carefull
