What do you think about the new Batwoman from DC Comics?
I think it will be well-receieved in the comics-reading community; it is not just kids, by any means, who read comics, and as a whole, the comics community seems to be like fantasy and sci-fi communities in that there is a sense of tolerance and open-mindedness, and a general tilt toward political progressiveness. Besides the many ‘openly’ gay comics characters in superhero stories, there are many non-superhero graphic novels that focus on LGBT people (including those by Alison Bechdel, whose comics produced Bechdel’s Rule for choosing movies). Also, many stories about superheroes (like the XMen Universe) have been considered thinly veiled commentary on gay rights. The comics-fan community is also not all straight men; it has a fair-sized LGBT portion, so overall, Batwoman will probably do fine if the stories and art are well-done.
