The recall includes about 533,000 ISDANS, TUPPLUR and ENJE roller blinds manufactured in Taiwan and France and sold by IKEA Home Furnishings of Conshohocken, Pa. between July 2005 and July 2009. IKEA previously recalled blinds in August, as well as in November 2008, following the death of a child. No incidents involving IKEA blinds were reported in this recall. Strangulation Risks Prompt Recall of Nearly 1 Million Window Shades, Blinds Almost one million roman shades and roller blinds are being recalled because the window coverings can pose a risk of strangulation to young children, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said. The recent near strangulation of a Delaware toddler who became tangled in the strings of a Roman shade prompted the massive recall, which comes on the heels of another recent recall involving about 5.4 million other shades. Today’s recall includes: • About 90,000 Faux Suede Roman Shades from Hanover Direct Inc. • About 364,000 Dublin Energy Solution Roman Shades from Louis Hornick & Co. Inc. • About 533,000 ISDANS, TUPPLUR, and ENJE Roller Blinds from IKEA Home Furnishings Strangulations may occur when a child places his neck between the exposed strings and cords on the shades or pulls the cord out and wraps it around his neck, the CPSC warned.
