Bull fighting, for those of you who only know of it from Bugs Bunny cartoons, is a sport where a brave man with flashy clothes stands in the middle of an arena. An angry but heavily drugged and sedated bull comes out, the brave man teases and dodges the bull for a while, and then he begins ceremonially stabbing the bull with long daggers. The bull is stabbed with lances from guys on horseback, stabbed with daggers with flags on the end, and finally run through with a sword. This is, in my opinion, a terrible game. It’s extremely distasteful to me. However, fishing for sport isn’t so great either. You run a barb through a fish’s mouth and try to pull it via that wound to the surface so that it can suffocate in your hands? Or you cut the sharp bit out and throw the fish back because you’re a nice guy? And hunting for sport…I don’t even get that. So I’m probably not qualified to think about bullfighting as that different from anything we normally enjoy. But it’s worse, I think.
