What do you recommend for adding a chin tie (cord) to my wide brimmed sun-protecting hat?”
Mark the points on each side of the hat that you think will work best, PIN THE CORD THERE, through the brim, tie it on, and WEAR IT FOR A WHILE! Once you’ve figured out the exact spot, mark the permenant location. Find someone with a “grommet-tool” or an eyelet tool. Have them put in an eyelet on each location. Find someone with a sewing machine with a good button-hole function. Have that person make SMALL buttonholes in the marked spots.
