Torquay is a holiday resort where there are many attractions for visitors. Agatha Christie lived here and there are exhibitions of her work and life at the Torquay Museum and Torre Abbey: a manor house built on the remains of a medieval monastery. Kents Cavern is a natural cave with stalactites and stalagmites where the remains of wild animals, now extinct, have been found. On the harbour, we have “Living Coasts” which features bird and wild life on the coast; it is managed by Paignton Zoo which is also well worth a visit. The Gulf Stream allows semi-tropical plants to grow in the gardens and country parks open to the public. Within the boundary of Torquay is Cockington Village where thatched cottages continue traditional village life and the manor house, Cockington Court, now has a craft centre.
