What do you like best from Puertorrican food/desserts?
Tostones – fried plaintains… delicious! Peel a plantain and cut it on an angle into about 5 pieces. Fry the pieces in hot vegetable oil until they are a deep golden color. Take the pieces out of the fryer, and flatten them. You can use a tostonera for this, but since many people don’t have those, I like to use the flat bottom of a plastic measuring cup onto a plate. Flatten them to about 1/2 inch thick. Fry them again for about 4 – 5 minutes until the edges are crispy. Serve with some salt, and perhaps some chimichurri, garlic butter, or something spicy on the side.
