What do you like about that special blend of western/horror that makes Deadlands so unique?
LG: I’ve always felt that the western and horror genres had a natural synergy. In fact, I had been trying to create a supernatural western game while I was still freelancing for Avalon Hill. None of my ideas ever quite gelled, though and the project never got past the scribbling stage. Then along comes Shane Hensley with Deadlands. It was perfect. Dark, gritty, funny, and wide-open, just like the best western movies. I HAD to be a part of it.There’s something about the uncertainty of life on the frontier that just lends itself to the supernatural. I mean, the old west as we think about it is so mythologized as to be partly supernatural already, so the addition of a few ghosts and vampires don’t really upset the flavor.The distinctly American vistas of the west make one think that anything is possible.
