Makkah was a city known for the holy place Kabah – a house built by Prophet Ibrahim (A) for the worship of one God. But the people of Makkah forgot the message of Prophet Ibrahim (A). They worshipped idols made by themselves and placed them around the Kabah. They thought of the idols as daughters of god and asked for their help, took oaths in their names and fought for them. The people of Makkah used to fight for any silly reason. Senseless bloodshed and tribal disputes were their way of life. So much so that war and disputes over silly reasons continued for years causing tremendous hardship for both sides. Poor people were helpless around the powerful tribal leaders. Woman had no status in social life. There were Jews and Christians who claimed that they believed in God and Prophets. But most of their religious leaders, rabbi’s and priests, were so corrupt that their religion no longer had any appeal to reason and wisdom.
