Even when an amp sounds clean, there is generally some distortion present, and the nature of that distortion may produce predominately even, predominately odd, or similar amounts of both even and odd harmonic distortion. The terms “even” and “odd” are very basic. Harmonic distortion is produced in multiples of the fundamental frequency. If the multiple is even, (2, 4, 6, etc.,) the harmonic distortion is even order.
