This method may or may not work, depending on how security conscious the person is (Windows XP): Reboot the computer Hold the F8 key as it starts up Choose safe mode from the list of options When you get to the welcome screen, click “Administrator” If it asks for a password, this method won’t work Otherwise, wait until the desktop is loaded Click Start > Run Enter “control userpasswords2” (without the quotes) Highlight the administrator user in the list (this is probably not the one called “Administrator” – ask the owner of the PC) and press Reset Password Type in a new password, then confirm it OK out of all the dialog boxes and reboot the computer Carry on installing the thing – when it asks for the administrator user password, use the one you entered above
