i had to opt out of the working time directive….just couldn`t afford to live on the basic 48 hour week ….

They are of the opinion that employers should not be allowed to coerce people into opting out. In most other EU countries the working time directive means that nobody is allowed to work more than 48 hours. The TUC thinks this should apply to the UK too.
