What do they mean when ink “bleeds”?
When the design goes off the edge of the page, it is said to “bleed”. It is normally printed on an oversize sheet then trimmed down to size. If your art does not “bleed” you can avoid extra trimming charges. 5. How do I insure that what I get is what I ordered? You can agree to a schedule of “proofs” and double checks as you go through the printing process. These proofs include double checking the copy (the verbage) before you bring your print project to the printer. Ask for a “color separated proof” to be sure the color is in the right place. Agree on which PMS colors you want and paper stock. 6. What if I don’t get what I ordered? If the error is yours (and you have a good relation with your printer) you might ask for a re-print at a lower rate. If the error is the printer’s, ask for a discount or reprint.
