What do theaters require to play Surround EX encoded films?

0

The Surround EX format is fully compatible with all existing 5.1 digital systems. It requires only the addition of a Dolby SA-10 surround adapter (or similar decoder); wiring the speakers into left, right and back groups; and providing an additional channel of surround amplification. If a theater is not equipped for Surround EX, the encoded rear surround information is still contained in l/r surround channels and will be played back accordingly by the l/r surround speaker arrays.
