What do the words “trekking, hiking, day hiking, backpacking” mean?
We use these words because there are no specific and short definitions for these words in Turkish. We usually use the word trekking for the walks in nature. But this name changes according to the qualities of this walk. Trekking is the long, tent-accommodated mountain walks with the pack animals at a high altitude. Hiking means the long walks which take place in meadows and rural areas. Day hiking is a walk in nature which lasts the same day. Backpacking means the long, mountain walks at a high altitude in which the mountaineers carry their own stuff.
