What do the symbols carved in stone on the facade of the 425 Portland building represent?
The stone medallions were sculpted by Professor Ivan Doseff of the University of Minnesota as part of a building remodeling and addition dedicated in 1948. They depict the principal industries and resources of Minnesota at that time timber and lumbering, agriculture, resorts and vacations, mining, dairy farming and milling.
