What do the results from the screening mean?

A. Most babies will receive a pass result. Those that pass with no risk factors for hearing loss will be discharged from the system. Some babies who pass the screening may be considered to be at high risk for hearing loss. These babies are asked to return between 15 to 18 months of age for a follow-up screening. IHP will contact you by phone. A refer result does not necessarily mean the baby has a hearing loss. A slight cold, stuffiness, earwax, fidgeting or even noise in the room can affect the results. Further assessments are required. The baby will be referred to an IHP Audiologist for a full hearing assessment.
