What do the power ratings mean – mAh, Volts, and Watts?

Oops. The user "laptopbatteryexpress.com" isn’t distinguishing clearly between milliamperes (mA) and milliampere-hours (mAh). Here’s a more precise and useful definition.

http://www.phonescoop.com/glossary/term.php?gid=194

mAh = Milliamp Hours.

A unit for measuring electric power over time. mAh is commonly used to describe the total amount of energy a battery can store at one time.

A higher mAh rating means the (fully-charged) battery can power a device that consumes more power and/or for a longer amount of time before becoming depleted and needing to be re-charged. For example, a battery rated at 1500 mAh can power a device drawing 100 milliamps for 15 hours, or a device drawing 150 milliamps for 10 hours.

What "laptopbatteryexpress.com" says in the end is correct: The more mAh capacity — the longer your battery will last, assuming the amount of current drawn by the device (A or mA) doesn’t change.

So, a battery rated at 600mAh should last about 3/4 of the time as one rated 800mAh, assuming the phone is used exactly the same way in each case. In actual practice, different activities (voice, general web browsing/email, playing media files or games…) may place varying demand on the battery.

WHY is this important? I just got stung (a little bit) on eBay, ordering a replacement battery for a friend’s cell phone. I ordered a generic replacement from a third party supplier, that carried the exact same model number as the original 800mAh battery meant for the particular model number of Motorola phone.

I didn’t read the fine print carefully enough. The replacement battery was rated between 500-1000 mAh! If they’re saying that’s true when it’s used only in that specific model of phone, then that’s REALLY lousy quality control! What we got in the mail ws a 600mAh battery; roughly 3/4 the capacity/endurance of the original.

Luckily, my friend refused my offer to return it and try again or to pay for it, as he expects to get a newer phone soon anyway; the original battery was REALLY worn out.

Lesson learned: Pay attention to details! Make sure you know EXACTLY what you are buying!

MAh (Milliamperes) represents the amount of stored energy in your battery. 1000 Milliamperes = 1 Ampere. The more mAh capacity – the longer your battery will last. Several batteries from LaptopBatteryExpress.com have higher mAh ratings than your original battery brand. This does not mean that the battery is not the correct replacement, but rather it is a longer lasting battery. Voltage in a battery refers to the volume of electricity that is delivered to your computer. The amount of energy that comes from your wall outlet is far in excess of what you need to operate the tiny circuits of a computer. Hence your power adapter contains a brick or bar like box that decreases the energy to a much lower voltage rating. Each computer manufacturer designs their computers for the appropriate voltage requirement. Your battery pack will then be engineered to match the voltage of the power AC adapter. Laptop battery packs are composed of several battery cells that are wired together in series. By c
