What do the Onko-Sure™ test results mean when used as a pre-screen for cancer?
The results will indicate whether the levels of FDP are within a normal range or elevated. If the levels are elevated, this could be associated with cancer and the patient should be further evaluated. In some cases, a patient may have cancer and still fall within the normal range for FDP. For example, if a patient is currently on chemotherapy, the FDP levels should be lower than a cancer patient not undergoing treatment. Therefore, it is important to regularly monitor the patient’s FDP levels for an increase in this biomarker that may indicate their current risk of having cancer. Similarly, if the patient’s results indicate elevated levels of FDP, this does not necessarily mean they have cancer. You should perform a follow-up evaluation to determine whether their elevated FDP levels are a result of cancer or were temporarily elevated as a result of an acute condition.
