What do the numbers on fertilizer bags refer to?
Most lawn fertilizers are made with 3 main ingredients. Nitrogen (N) which promotes healthy green growth; Phosphorus (P) which stimulates root formation promotes and enhances blooms as well as provides energy for continued growth; and Potassium (K) which strengthens the plant and increases its resistance to disease. In the spring, early and late summer, your lawn requires a higher level of Nitrogen (N) to promote strong green growth. In the fall, we recommend a higher level of Potassium (K) to strengthen the lawn and increase disease resistance to prepare it for the winter months ahead.
