What do the initials NTRA stand for, and what is the Breeders Cup?
NTRA stands for the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, the national industry trade group for Thoroughbred horseracing in North America. The NTRA and Breeders Cup Limited conduct the Breeders Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, the season ending “Super Bowl” of horseracing. The Breeders Cup is widely considered the finest day of horse racing in the world. It consists of eight races with combined purses of $14 million. The most important race is the 1 ΒΌ mile Breeders Cup Classic, which carries a purse of $4 million and attracts the most accomplished dirt horses from around the world.
