IGERT panels are interdisciplinary and the range of various interdisciplinary themes is very broad, so a proposal must let both an expert and a person outside the field know what is exciting and significant. IGERT is highly competitive and a proposal must stand out from the crowd. It is always up to the proposers to make the case for the significance, need, opportunities, prospects, etc. for any given topic or training. Specific review criteria are discussed in the program solicitation.
