What do the headset model designators such as “A5” and “R” indicate?

Generally, most intercom headsets such as the PH-88/44, HR-1/2, and PH-100/200 come with “Audiocom-style” four-pin female connectors by default. Adding an “R” to the end of the model, as in the PH-88R designates an “RTS” connector, which is male. Adding a “5” to the model number indicates that the connector is a five-pin connector. Some headsets such as the PH-88E can be shipped with a coiled cord instead of a straight cord, designated by the “E” in the model number. “PT” in the model number designates that the headset is “pig-tailed”, bare wire and without connectors. “A” in the model number designates that the connector is “Audiocom-style” female, for clarification (if necessary: such as A5 vs. R5 with the A5 being female and R5 being male). Some headsets can be ordered with Sony-style .350 mini connectors and are designated with an “S”.
