What do the file format types mean?
There are basically two types of graphic file formats: raster and bitmap. Bitmap files (TIF, JPG, PSD, GIF, PNG) are made up of tiny pixels, and are therefore resolution based, which means that they can lose quality when resized. Many design services will provide several different sizes of each bitmap file format for this reason. The “lightest” of bitmap files are commonly used on the web (JPG, GIF, PNG), and are best for placing on a background. Vector formats (EPS, AI) are comprised of points, lines, and fills, therefore taking up less file space and can be resized without loss of quality. With the proper software, vector formats are the easiest to revise, and work best for printers.
