What do the dose results mean compared to other natural radiological exposure?
Radiation is naturally all around us so we all get a background dose. The average annual dose from naturally-occurring radionuclides in food & water is about 210 microsieverts (μSv), with the average annual UK dose from all natural sources (including food, radon in air, etc.) being around 2,230 microsieverts (μSv). In addition, certain other activities can lead to extra exposure to radiation. For instance, a dental x-ray can give you a dose of about 5 microsieverts (μSv), and a return flight between London and Sydney a dose of about 160 microsieverts (μSv).
