What do the changes made by SB 778 mean to service contract providers?
With the changes made by SB 778 to the Service Contract Regulatory Act and to other statutes, service contract providers may now include identity recovery services in their service contracts that are sold to consumers who purchase automobiles, where the vehicles and service contracts are financed. Prior to these changes, service contract providers could only sell and finance service contracts associated with the vehicle being purchased. With these changes in the law, service contract providers may now include identity recovery services, which are not associated with the vehicle, in their usual service contracts that are financed with the purchase of a vehicle.
