What do the Boards and Commissions do?
In addition to the 8 departments that make up the City of Manhattan Beach, there also exists 1 Board and 5 Commissions (Board of Building Appeals, Library Commission, Cultural Arts Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Parking and Public Improvements Commission and Planning Commission) that provide recommendations to the City Council regarding policy issues. These Commissions, composed primarily of community members, give private citizens the ability to participate in civic action.
