What Do Social Security Numbers Mean?

0

Social security numbers are divided into three parts comprising of the first three, the middle two and the last four. Since the year 1972 the first three digits, that make up the social security numbers, have been based on the area code that a person provides as his or her mailing address. The numbers were originally assigned, before this date (1972), from the northeast towards the southwest. Numbers that are now assigned based n the mailing address do not necessarily refer to a person’s residence or the state they belong to. The next two digits were used to form the numbers into groups or lots. Usually numbers are allotted in a particular lot. These two and the last four digits (known as serial numbers) do not actually signify anything at all.
