What Do Seeds Need to Sprout?
• Students will conduct an experiment to determine what seeds need to sprout. • Materials • 4 plastic bags • paper towels • cup of water • 20 bean seeds • marker • data sheet • Procedure • Wet two paper towels, and put five seeds on each towel • Write A on one bag and B on another bag • Put one wet paper towel with its seeds in bag A and one in bag B • Label the remaning bags C and D • Put five seeds on two different dry paper towels • Put a dry towel and it’s seeds into bag C and one into bag D • Put bags A and C in a cool, dark place • Place bags B and D in a warm place • After three days look at the seeds and draw what you see on your data sheet Sponge Garden • Children will observe the growth of seeds • Materials • sponge • water • seeds (grass or radish work well) • shallow dish • Procedure • Soak the sponge in water • Place the sponge in a shallow dish of water • Sprinkle the seeds on top of the sponge • Keep the sponge wet by putting water in the dish • If you add liquid plant f
