What do reaction rates depend on?
Of course, the reaction rates are not entirely dependent on the reactants involved but are also dependent on: Temperature – when you raise the temperature of the reactants their molecules are moving around much faster and have much more energy. This increases their likelihood for collision with each other and thus their reaction with one another. If more of the molecules are combining in our reactants over time then our rate has increased and is happening at a fast rate. Conversely, if we were to lower the temperature of the reactants their molecules have less energy and are moving around at a slower speed. This will decrease their likelihood for collision with one another and their reaction with each other. If less molecules are combining in our reaction over time then the rate of our reaction has decreased and is happening at a slow rate. Concentration – when the number of moleculues of a substance are increased then the number of collisions increases and therefore the rate increases
