What Do Probiotics Do?
Those “good” bacteria are vital to several functions of your body. They support a healthy immune system and help your body absorb nutrients. Often, when antibiotics (opposite of probiotics) are taken to eliminate “bad” bacteria, the “good” bacteria die, as well. This can throw off your body’s natural balance. Since probiotics are so similar to those “good” bacteria, they’re often taken to support a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut. Probiotics and Prebiotics You may have heard of prebiotics. Despite the similar names, probiotics and prebiotics are very different. By definition, prebiotics are “non-digestible foods that support the growth of good bacterial species”.
