What do plants breathe in carbon dioxide or oxygen? And what do they breathe out?

0

Plants ‘breathe’ in and out differently in the daytime from the night-time. During the day and night plants respire, as we do. That’s breathing in oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide. However, during the daytime, plants also photosynthesize. That’s using the Sun’s energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates for energy to survive and grow. When doing this, they breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. At night, of course, the sun isn’t out, so photosynthesis ceases.
