What do pharmacists do on a daily basis?
I’m a 4th year pharmacy student and I absolutely love math and chemistry. Pharmacists actually do a whole variety of things – so I will tell you about my experiences so far. I currently work in a retail pharmacy. There we are involved in dealing with patients and patient care, but also a lot of “technical” type work – such as typing prescriptions, calling insurances, counting pills, etc. My pharmacist is a Diabetes specialist, so she meets one on one with patients to teach them how to use blood glucose monitors, we bring a nutritionist in to talk about dietary issues with diabetes, we troubleshoot issues with medications (such as interactions, bad side effects, etc). We also perform immunizations for patients (flu, pneumonia, shingles), do blood tests (like cholesterol panels, thyroid tests) and a whole lot more. Another huge part of retail pharmacy is counseling patients, either about prescriptions that they are receiving or about helping them choose over the counter products. I’m cur
