What do Peregrine Falcons make their nests out of?
We get Peregrine Falcons nesting on top of our high rise buildings in the city. These Falcons return to the same site every year to nest. They are actually Celebrities now and whilst they are there they are monitored and everything is done to ensure they are not disturbed and they have been successfully raising young for some years now. This year there were 2 nesting pairs. They live in the outside garden ledge at the top of the building. There are bushes planted surrounded by round quartz pebble rock. They don’t make a nest but simply lay the eggs on top of the rocks where they blend in. They usually lay 2 eggs. The chicks just sit there amongst the bushes whilst Mum and Dad feed them with the city pigeons they catch. They help keep the pigeon population down. They are here in Australia and I know New York gets them. Hope this helps with your assignment.
