The Byrd expeditions made much use of oil-burning stoves, and the United States Antarctic Program issued liquid-fueled cooking stoves that burned “white gas,” a gasoline-like fuel, or kerosene. These apparently work perfectly well even in the extreme cold of Antarctica.
