What do people eat on Hanukkah?
Traditional Hanukkah food includes Beef brisket and potatoes in a thick gravy. Also Latkes, which are grated potatoes and chopped onions held together with eggs then fried, served with sour cream and applesauce, are also very common for Hanukkah dinner.
When celebrating Hanukkah, people enjoy cooking foods in oil to represent the oil that lasted 8 days.
The first night of Hanukah traditionally consists of a dairy/pareve meal. Things like hummus, blintzes, latkes, falafel, salads, etc. Jelly donuts are a traditional dessert, as is Hanukah "gelt" (chocolate money) which is often used by children in playing dreidle. The response indicating that Hanukah is a time for matzoh is just plain wrong. That stuff doesn’t get eaten until spring during the holiday of Passover/Pesach.
