N95 and R95 are government filtering efficiency ratings which mean that a respirator blocks out at least 95 percent of airborne particles that are 0.3 microns in size or larger. The N in N95 indicates that the respirator is not resistant to oil whereas the R in R95 signifies that the respirator is somewhat resistant to oil.
