What do my eye test results mean?

Hello. Your prescription is determined in Diopters. Given your Rx above your Doctor has determined you are myopic and that you have some Astigmatism present in both eyes, (quite a bit more in your OD or right eye.) Your prescription is measured in quarter steps where 4 steps equal a diopter. Having said this…this level of Rx is pretty common. The 2nd part of this Rx is the CYL which refers to the Astigmatism level. Astigmatism is where the cornea becomes more elongated not unlike a football shape. The great the astigmatism present, the more football shaped it becomes. Your right eye has 4 steps which can significantly decrease you far off vision if not corrected. The left eye is minimal. The last part is your axis which is always present if astigmatism is present. It simply refers to the degree the corrected lens must be turned to and cut down to for glasses in order to correct for the astigmatism. Hope this helps.
