What do mountain lions eat and what eats them?
As someone who lives in mountain lion territory; they tend to eat deer and small animals, including rodents. However they have a tendency to on the occasion get into farmer’s yards and take down sheep, goats, horses, cattle, etc. They are also known to kill and eat the dogs and cats of those that don’t keep their animals secured. A friend of mine lost a dog this way not too long ago. It is rare (though increasing in regularity) that they will kill people. They are one of the apex predators in this area and aren’t actively preyed upon by any other kind of animal. The biggest threat to their survival is humans, as we are encroaching in on their territory and as such are coming in contact with them with much more frequency then we have in past decades. Unfortunately; because of that fact, they are becoming less and less fearful of people and are starting to enter into more urban areas in search of food, which often leads to the lion in question being hunted down and killed. 🙁 Mountain li
