What do L.S., B, F, q, and Ref stand for with call numbers?
Books with L.S. after the call number are books for children and young adults shelved separately from the general collection. A call number with a B before the number indicates that the book is shelved with the Biographies. F denotes that the book is shelved up on the balcony with Fiction or in the McNaughton fiction collection If a “Q” or an “f” appears at the beginning of the call number, it means the book is oversized and is shelved at the end of the numbered section. Example: If the call number was q822.34 or f801.5 the book will be shelved at the very end of the 800’s. Ref at the beginning of the call numbers indicates that the book is shelved in the reference section. These books are only available for use in the library and cannot be checked out.
