What do Jews think when confronted with Christians who deny the evidence for the origins of Judaism?
Firstly to ‘gerty’ – when you slander us, you’re also slandering your saviour, Jesus, our fellow JEW. You might wanna think twice next time. To answer the post: Actually, when I’ve sometimes stated that Judaism was originally henotheistic, I’ve received complaints from both Jews and non Jews! But the fact remains: Judaism started as a family and a tribe. The original Israelite deity was a tribal, *localised* deity who was seen as guarding the Israelites. Other faiths had their own ‘gods’. Judaism became pure monotheism when we received the Torah at Mt Sinai, which is when we became both a nation *and* an organised religion. As to how I respond when *some* Christians try and REwrite the origins of Judaism…. Well, Christianity has, frankly, REwritten our Tanakh, tried to REwrite our definition of ‘maschiach’, and even now is sometimes REwriting what Passover and other Jewish festivals involve…. So I’m hardly surprised if *some* Christians are also trying to REwrite the origins of Jud
