A- LATICRETE® 317 Thin-Set Mortar mixed with LATICRETE 333 Super Flexible Mortar Additive is recommended for installing tile directly over plywood. Click here for LATICRETE Technical Data Sheet 152, Requirements for Installation of Ceramic Tile over Wood Floors. Q- Can I install tile directly over luan or particleboard? A- No. Exterior grade plywood is the only suitable wood underlayment for installation of ceramic tile by the direct bond method. Masonite, hardwood floors, strip wood floors, “yellow pitch pine” plywood, composite panels, luan, waferboard, particleboard, oriented strandboard, or similar reconstructed wood panels are not suitable subsurfaces for the installation of ceramic tile. Refer to Technical Data Sheet 152.
