What do I need to prove compliance to the International Building Code or International Residential Code?
Both of those codes reference the ASTM E1996 test specification. Testing to that specification should be enough to prove code compliance. Again, there are many different levels of testing in that document, therefore what is acceptable in one region or jurisdiction may not be accepted in another. Both the IBC and IRC state that all exterior windows and doors must be tested and labeled to AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S. 2-97. This requirement may be met in many ways depending upon the jurisdiction in which the window is installed. At a minimum, testing to the AAMA standard by a third party independent lab is required.
