At 1:49, it starts off with arpeggios…the scales come in at 2:14. I would say the arpeggios are harder than the sparkly scales. The scales aren’t that hard, because it’s mainly just chromatic scales with some leaps, plus both hands are doing more or less the same thing, so it’s only a matter of making sure your hands are together. It looks hard on the score but it isn’t that hard. The arpeggios, on the other hand, need you to aim for the correct notes, and the left hand is doing different things from the right – that requires more coordination and skill. You start off practising really slowly and with a forte dynamic level in both hands (for both arpeggios and scales sections). After you get the notes secure and even, then you add speed. Frankly speaking, this etude is far from easy and not something that most people can ‘teach themselves’. The 1st 2 pages are barely an introduction to what’s to come later on in the etude.
