What do I need to know about using avast! Pro in conjunction with a firewall?
After installing avast! Pro, your firewall could warn you that avast! Pro is trying to connect to our servers to find updates for the virus database and the program. You should allow Avast! Pro to connect otherwise the update function will not work. Here is some useful information: 1) The following Avast! Pros components should be authorised to connect to the Internet: avast! Pro.setup avast!ProXX.setup (“XX” representing the numbers) aswUpdSv.exe ashWebSv.exe 2) How does the update service work? Firstly, avast! Pro tries to detect if your computer is connected to the Internet – it sends a “Ping” (message) to one of our servers and waits for a response. If there is no response to the “Ping” sent, avast! Pro reattempts to connect to the server every 40 seconds. If the connection is successful, avast! Pro connects to our server and checks if there are any new updates available. If there are, avast!
