What do I need to know about the recent changes to MBTA pass types and fares?
A. • The subsidy for all MBTA passes increased to 50% beginning January 1, 2007 • SUBWAY, COMBO, and COMBO PLUS passes no longer exist. These passes have been replaced by the monthly LinkPass. • The durable plastic CharlieCard replaces the thinner magnetic stripe monthly pass for all users except those using the Commuter Rail. • The CharlieCard has a computer chip imbedded, and as such automatically updates with money withdrawn from your payroll account every month. • DO NOT throw the CharlieCard away at the end of the month. It will last for up to 5 years. • DO NOT punch a hole in your CharlieCard, as it may damage the computer chip and cause the card to malfunction.
