Lisa, storm chasing is quite a dangerous thing to do, so you should know the following: You need to know how to navigate through and around the storm. When chasing after a tornado or supercell thunderstorm, you MUST always stay behind the tornado or slightly to the left of it. You also need to be aware of the damaging hail which falls in the northeastern part of a supercell, this can be an extreme hazard to your vehicle and your life. You also need to be prepared for the storms. If you can, travel into an area where the Storm Prediction Center has a high likelihood of tornadic thunderstorms and supercells. Storm chasing does not mean you will see a tornado, if any. It’s really all about being in the right place at the right time (or the wrong place at the right time – however you view it as).
