What do I need to consider when enclosing a boiler?
First, the oil tank, if properly installed, should already be vented to the exterior and the fill valve should be through the exterior wall as well. I assume the fuel company doesn’t have to open the garage and come in to fill it. If that is the case, you can enclose the tank securely but understanding that if you ever need to access it for repairs, you’ll need to get at it. Second, the furnace (boiler) needs fresh air for combustion. Without that it won’t operate properly and will start to create black soot in the air. Right now it’s drawing it from the garage but if you enclose it entirely, it will have nowhere to draw air from. A solution, which I had done in my own house, is to put a combustion hood around the fuel burning device attached to the furnace and run a direct vent to the exterior. It’s a small metal cover that goes over the fuel burner right where the fuel line passes through the filter before it enters into the furnace. From there you run a small diameter duct to the ex
