You are right about the lights. Going to the larger tank you might find out that you need a higher wattage basking bulb. Most of us have gone to regular household bulbs and just experiment with the wattage to get the right basking temp. Your UVB should run the length of the tank. If he is over a year old you can switch the substrate to washed play sand. Just sift it again before you put him in on it. You can always build a feeding platform at one end if you are worried about him ingesting sand. I move all of mine to sand after they hit a year old and have never had any problems but then their salads do sit on the platforms and mine eat superworms. They really don’t care for crickets any more so its pretty easy for me.
